LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Mevagissey Village

Just a few minutes walk will take you down into the picturesque 14th Century fishing village of Mevagissey where you can while away hours and hours especially if you are blessed with good weather.

The old centre has very narrow streets with an array of independent shops, art galleries, potteries, and an excellent selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants catering for every taste.

The museum is a fascinating treasure, showing how the village once looked when the Pilchard industry was booming.
The Model Railway exhibition is very impressive and not forgetting the Aquarium which displays locally caught fish and is in the old lifeboat house.

Mevagissey Harbour

Still very much a thriving port, Mevagissey is the largest working fishing village in St. Austell Bay having more than 50 registered fishing boats. Totally unique with both an inner and outer harbour there is a busy mix of pleasure craft and active working fishing boats where you can see the commercial fisherman landing their catch daily.

Fishing and pleasure trips are available from the quayside, or you can hire a boat for yourself and find a secluded beach. The Mevagissey passenger
ferry runs numerous times a day during the summer months to Fowey from the Lighthouse Quay connecting these two 'charming and contrasting' harbours and is a super day out without the need to drive and park. You may even be lucky and see some seabirds, basking sharks or dolphins!

You can walk right to the end of each quay, with plenty of seating for just sitting and people watching, or how about a spot of crab catching? Alternatively the coastal path runs in both directions offering fantastic scenic walks.

We are very proud to be part of the fishing industry, in fact Mikes family have been fishing from Mevagissey for more than 400 years!  We are always amazed at our guests’ genuine interest in our families’ two fishing boats and the fishing industry in general, and we will be happy to answer all those questions you will have after spending time on the harbour. Clare, being the 'foreigner' in the family is almost accepted after more than 38 years!

We have extensive knowledge of the surrounding area and Cornwall and are happy to share this with you and help plan your days out.
